The balneology in Karlovy Vary was significantly improved by doctor David Becher, who made the first research of the springs and in 1764 started production and export of mieral salts. Becher was more keen of mineral baths than of drinking cure. In 1755 Joahn Georg Pupp started off the tradition of hotel and restaurant resort in the town. In 1826 Jean de Carro founded steam spa not far from the Vřídlo. In 1853 the first ferric baths are applied by Dr. Mannel. In 1905 the spa town is influenced by the Prague balneologic practice and treatments targetted on metabolic disorders start to being treated here.
